Record-breaking sales for Birchwood Group

  • Print

For the sixth year in a row, the Birchwood Automotive Group challenged its sales team to set a record for December sales. And because Birchwood is celebrating its 50th anniversary, management set a target of 1,500 sales in 50 days, from November 10 to the end of the year.

Well, the numbers are in. And the sales team not only hit this target, but surpassed it by more than a third, registering 2,110 sales of new and used vehicles in that period.

"Our sales overall were up 20 per cent in 2013," said Birchwood Group president Steve Chipman. "We sold 14,000 vehicles this year. With a particular increase in our used-car sales. We decided last year to focus more on used-car sales."

As well, he said, winter-tire sales in 2013 were up by 30 per cent and the service side was up by 11 per cent

"We're trying to get more out of what we have. We still have areas where we can improve."

Chipman credited the sales accomplishment to his executive team. "As chairman of the United Way Campaign, I haven't been able to devote as much time to our business interests these past few months," he said. "My management team has really stepped up and done a great job."

The Birchwood Auto Group includes its GM store and GM truck store, Birchwood Honda West, Birchwood Kia West, Birchwood Infiniti Nissan, Birchwood BMW/Mini, Jaguar/Land Rover/Volvo Winnipeg and Woodhaven Lexus Toyota at the Pointe West AutoPark, Birchwood Honda on Regent, Birchwood Kia East and Birchwood Keystone Ford on Regent, Birchwood Hyundai on north McPhillips and Birchwood Credit Solutions, a used-car operation that opened in 2012 at Leila and Salter.

Construction of the Birchwood Group's new BMW store at the Pointe West AutoPark is nearing completion, as are renovations to the Chev store.

"At the heart of everything we do are the principles of service excellence, team-member growth and a commitment to strengthening our community," Chipman said. "On behalf of the Birchwood Auto Group, thank you, Winnipeg, for allowing us to serve you for the past 50 years."

New Sales Manager for Gauthier Chev, Pieter von Stackelberg, joined the Jim Gauthier Chevrolet management team in mid-November, bringing with him 17 years of experience in auto sales including several years in management.

"It's a lot of fun working here," von Stackelberg said. "I like the faster pace at this store and the greater opportunities I have to interact with our customers."
