The Vickar Auto Group has opened its fifth location at 1315 Dugald Road near the Perimeter Highway..

"We're excited about our new commercial truck service centre and Isuzu Truck centre," said Vickar Group President Larry Vickar. "Some trucks we weren't able to get into our existing autobody shop. Here, we can service all makes and models."

AT 10,000 square feet with seven full service bays, the truck centre will stock more than 400 Isuzu and GM trucks.

Isuzu Canada executive vice-president Joe Totaro and western Canada sales, service and parts manager Don Mackie dropped into Winnipeg on Nov. 5 to view the new store, giving it their seal of approval.

"We're happy to see this new standalone centre," said Mackie, who is based in Mississauga.

Vickar Chev, the Vickar Group's flagship store, has been the Isuzu dealer for Manitoba since 2001. Totaro noted that ,until 2007, Isuzu trucks were sold through GM dealerships.

"In 2007, we started to sign up specific Isuzu dealers," he said. "We're seeing growth every year. As people get to know the brand better, I'm sure we will experience accelerated growth."

Vickar Isuzu sales rep Dan Wilks said the new truck store sold a couple of Isuzu units in just the first few days in November. Vickar noted that Isuzu produces the only low cab-forward commercial truck offering the option of a gas-powered motor.

The Vickar Auto Group also includes Vickar Chevrolet, Vickar Nissan, Vickar Mitsubishi and Waverley Mitsubishi. The new store's grand opening will be held sometime in the spring.

New Gerry Gordon Mazda opens at Waverley Auto Mall

GERRY Gordon Mazda opened for business at the beginning of November at its new location in the Waverley Auto Mall.

"This is a dream come true," said Gordon, Canada's longest-serving Mazda dealer.

"This building turned out better than expected. The work was largely finished on time and under budget. Our employees and customers are very excited to be in this building and this auto mall."

At 17,000 square feet, the new dealership is more than double the size of the old store on Pembina Highway. The showroom holds eight models as compared to four or five at the old location, and the new store has 12 service bays compared to seven previously.

"We have 3.3 acres here, so we have plenty of room to expand," Gordon added.

The new store has a larger customer service area, with a fireplace, two TV screens, a small cafeteria and a play area for children. And the entire building, including the service area and Gordon's office, is suffused with natural light.

Gordon, with his son Rod, controller Sandy Spence and service manager Doug Makichuk, worked closely with contractor Concord Projects to ensure that all went according to plan and schedule.

"We have no wasted space in this building," Gordon said. As with the Vickar truck store, the grand opening for the new Gerry Gordon Mazda will be in the spring.

Mazda dealers welcome 2014 Mazda3

THE completely redesigned 2014 Mazda3 began arriving in dealer showrooms here about a month ago.

Gerry Gordon Mazda sales rep Jordan Lee said the new model has the full Mazda SkyActiv treatment. The Kodo "Soul of Motion" body design makes the vehicle look like it's in motion even when it's sitting. There's a high-tensile steel chassis (lighter in weight, but more rigid), a sixth gear in the transmission and a new SkyActiv engine in the GT model that boosts fuel efficiency by 15 per cent, Lee added.

"A lot of people are coming in and asking about the new Mazda3," Lee said, noting the new model's base price is $19,290, including freight and pdi.

Mitsubishi introduces sub-compact Mirage

VICKAR Mitsubishi sales rep Bryan Appleyard describes the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage sun-compact as the most fuel-efficient in car in Canada.

The new model was first introduced in Europe last year and arrived in Canada (and Winnipeg showrooms) in late September.

"We've had a huge response to the Mirage," Appleyard said. "For people looking for a safe (seven airbags) inexpensive, fuel-efficient car, the Mirage is it."

The base price for the new model is $12,748, plus freight and pdi, and is covered by Mazda's 10-year, 160,000-km warranty.
