Cruiser of the Week: Heavy Chevy

  • Print

WHO says the Ford folks don't appreciate a sweet Chevrolet when they see one?

Betty Lannoo of the Fabulous 50's Ford Club of Manitoba presented Reinhard Wilzer with the Cruiser of the Week pick last Sunday at the Grant Park Pony Corral's Sunday night cruise. Wilzer's 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door post is without question one of the top cars in Winnipeg.

Wilzer, who owns Wilzer Sheet Metal and Heating, bought the car in North Carolina five years ago and spent countless hours and a pile of money transforming this car into one of Winnipeg's finest street machines.

Under the hood the car features a 572 cubic-inch Chevrolet crate motor loaded with go-fast goodies and enough chrome plating from the House of Silver to make a jeweller jealous. The motor is linked to a 5-speed manual transmission and makes a reported 677 horsepower. Other highlights include a full air ride suspension and Boyd Coddington wheels.

The car was expertly refinished in DuPont Hot Hues champagne fizz and ice green dream paint by the capable crew at Ground Up Restorations and the custom dyed leather interior was stitched to perfection by Otto's Custom Upholstery.

Wilzer is quick to thank his friends Adrian Vandergraff, Ron Baxter and Darryl Jackson for helping him build this bad boy.
