Still lots of car shows and events in September

Summer may be winding down, but there are still some great cruising events scheduled right here in Winnipeg throughout the month of September.

In addition to weekly Sunday-night cruise events at the Grant Park Pony Corral Restaurant and the Tavern United on Regent Avenue, the Manitoba Pontiac Association and Canadian Super Shop are hosting Thursday-night show-and-shines at Zax's Drive Inn, 1184 Portage Ave. on both Sept. 13 and 27.

Sept. 1, 2, 3

The International Mustang Meet IMM #33 Proudly presented by the Manitoba Mustang and Ford Association, this international meet promises more than 400 Mustang and Ford powered vehicles from all over Canada and the United States. Host hotel and event centre is the Victoria Inn Winnipeg, 1808 Wellington Ave. Registration is $45 and includes the Friday Kegger, Saturday Car Show, Sunday Cruise and Monday Farewell Breakfast. Annual Labour Day Car Show

Sept. 7, 8, 9

Fabulous 50'S Ford Club Of Manitoba 18th Annual Flashback Weekend

The popular "Sock Hop Social" takes place on Friday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. at Transcona Country Club, 2070 Dugald Road. Live band. Silent auction in support of the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation.

Scenic Classic Car Cruise

This cruise begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Garden City Inn, 2100 McPhillips, and makes its way to the Half Moon Drive Inn in Lockport. No entry fee. All antiques, classic and special-interest vehicles are welcome. Prizes, games, great burgers and hot dogs.

"Manitoba's Largest Free Car Show"

Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Garden City Shopping Centre (south parking lot), 2305 McPhillips St. Open to all. Free registration (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Show-and-shine is noon to 5 p.m. More than 1,200 vehicles on display, over 30 awards. Dash plaques for first 500, live band, DJ, prizes, t-shirt sales, 50/50 draw in support of Children's Rehabilitation Foundation, kids' entertainment, food vendors. Hot Rods and Harleys, Wide Open House. Saturday, Sept. 15. Harley-Davidson Winnipeg, 1377 Niakwa Road East. 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Huge showing of hot rods and Harleys, new and vintage. Live band, HIGHWAY59, starting at 11:30 am. Trophies for people's choice awards. BBQ run by Winnipeg H.O.G. chapter. Call (204) 254-3974 for more info.

Sept. 23

St. James Volkswagen/Audi 2nd Annual Show and Shine Charity Car Show

Sunday, Sept. 23 at St. James VW/Audi, 670 Century St. Registration 11 a.m., Show-and-shine is noon-4 p.m. Open to all European vehicles (VW, Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, etc.) Activities will include a parts department garage sale, BBQ, music and kids' face painting. Sept. 29

Ride and Tide to Winnipeg Beach

Presented by Willy's Garage. Join local motorcycle enthusiasts on a scenic ride to Winnipeg Beach and dare to make one final chilly swim in Lake Winnipeg. Ride departs from Peppercorn Restaurant in Oakbank at noon. Ride route is north on Hwy. 206, West on Hwy. 44 and North on Hwy. 8 to Winnipeg Beach. Free to all motorcyclists. Particpants are encouraged to donate a gift card of their choice in support of The Children's Rehabilitation Foundation of Manitoba. Prizes for best swimmers. Sept. 30

20th Annual Manitoba Street Rod Association Toy Run

Sunday September 30th, 2012. Canada Revenue Agency parking lot on Lagimodiere Blvd (Hwy 59) Across from Sears Kildonan Place. 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Spectator admission is FREE. Folks coming in with custom and classic cars are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy or a cash donation. (We discourage plush toys because of health concerns though all toys will be gladly accepted.) Dash Plaques are courtesy of Applebee's Grill & Bar Regent Ave. and are limited to the first 375 cars. Proceeds to Children's Rehabilitation Foundation of Manitoba.
