Boater missing on Split Lake

RCMP and civilians are searching for a boater missing since Tuesday night on Split Lake.

Thompson RCMP said today they received a report on Tuesday at about 9:30 p.m., that the boat of a 41-year-old man from York Landing had been found empty and running in circles around 8:30 p.m., 15 minutes after he left Split Lake heading to York Landing.

RCMP said the boat had damage which appeared to be caused by striking a reef.

Witnesses said the man was not wearing a life jacket.

Thompson Rural RCMP, Thompson Police Service Dog, Manitoba North District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team members, the RCMP Underwater Recover Team, and community members from both York Landing and Split Lake are helping search.
