Winnipeg has retained its championship belt as the Slurpee Capital of the world out-slurping upstarts like Calgary and Detroit.
That means that on Sunday July 11 — the eleventh day of the seventh month — when 7-Eleven stores across Canada give away Slurpee drinks to the first 1,000 customers in every store, the Winnipeg allotment of free Slurpees likely will not last long.
Winnipeg claims the dubious Slurpee honour for the 11th year in a row based on having the highest average number of Slurpee cups sold per store in the region.
To celebrate the glorious achievement the Slurpee Cup will be awarded to fans at the Blue Bomber game against Toronto at Canad Inns Stadium on Friday night.
