  • Print

A 14-year-old Waywayseecappo boy was killed after being struck by a car on Friday.

The boy, who was on his bicycle, was involved in a collision with a vehicle being driven by a 64-year-old male resident of Waywayseecappo. The accident occurred on Highway 45 shortly before 3 p.m.

The boy was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

According to Prairie Mountain area RCMP, witness accounts indicate both the cyclist and vehicle were eastbound on Highway 45 when, for reasons that remain unknown, the cyclist veered into traffic of the eastbound lane.

Despite evasive efforts, the driver could not avoid the collision. Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor, police said.

The investigation continues. The name of the deceased was not released.
