Goldeyes putting on fireworks show for American friends

The Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball team isn't about to let a little inclement weather get in the way of their July 4 plans today at Shaw Park.

The Goldeyes will host the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 7 p.m. in the second game of the four-game set between the two teams.

"Rain should be done early this afternoon. Will be good to go tonite for Goldeyes game at 7. Fireworks by @ArchangelFwks (Archangel Fireworks) after the game!" said Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier via Twitter (@GoldeyesGM).

July 4 is a national holiday in the United States, the native land of most of the Goldeyes players.

On Tuesday, Fargo scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to win the first game 5-3.

Goldeyes closer Dexter Carter took the loss and suffered his first blown save.

It was a second straight loss for Winnipeg (26-17) and fourth straight loss to Fargo (22-21). The Goldeyes are still in first place in the American Association’s North division, two games ahead of the Sioux Falls Pheasants.
