3 Manitobans invited to junior hockey camp

Three Manitoba-born players have been invited to try out for Team Canada ahead of the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo.

Goalie Calvin Pickard and forward Cody Eakin of Winnipeg and forward Quinton Howden of Oak Bank will participate in the selection camp Dec. 12-15 in Toronto.

Pickard, 18, is a member of the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds and a Colorado Avalanche draft pick.

Eakin , 19, plays for the WHL's Swift Current Broncos, and has been chosen in the draft by the Washington Capitals.

Howden, 18, plays for the Moose Jaw Warriors and has been drafted by the Florida Panthers.

A total of 39 players have been invited to the selection camp.

Canada, coming off a final-game loss to the U.S. in last year's tournament, opens the WJC on Dec. 26 against Russia.
