A 33-year-old Winnipeg man is facing several charges under the City of Winnipeg’s Exotic Animal bylaw after police and city staff seized more than 50 snakes and other reptiles from a downtown Winnipeg apartment building.
Winnipeg police said the investigation was triggered by a complaint early Saturday morning from a man living in a suite in the 300-block of Assiniboine Avenue.
The 75-year-old tenant found a 5-6 foot long snake under the sink of his bathroom.
Staff from Animal Services were called to the suite and apprehended the snake.
That triggered an investigation into where the snake came from. A search of another suite led to the discovery of 50 additional snakes and other reptiles, which police have not yet identified.
The investigation is continuing.
