8 Manitoba hockey players invited to women's national selection camp

Eight Manitoba players have been invited to the selection camp for Canada’s national women’s under-22 hockey team Aug. 7 to 14 in Calgary.

Defencemen Rebecca Hewett (Oak Bluff), Breann Frykas (East St. Paul) and Brittany Phillips (Lauder) along with forwards Bailey Bram (Ste. Anne), Laura Fridfinnson (Arborg), Chelsea Karpenko (Winnipeg), Jenelle Kohanchuk (Winnipeg) and Addie Miles (Winnipeg) are among 42 players who will be vying for Team Canada positions.

A 22-player roster from the camp will be selected for a team which will compete in the 2010 MLP Cup in Ravensburg, Germany in January 2010. Bram, Fridfinnson and Karpenko were members of last year’s national under-22 team.

Manitoba has the second highest number of players invited to the camp behind Ontario with 17 and ahead of Quebec with seven and Alberta with five.
