86 women nominated for distinction awards

There are 86 nominations for the 2013 Women of Distinction Awards, which will presented on May 1 by the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg.

Susan Auch, the three-time Olympic speed-skating medallist, will host the 37th annual Women of Distinction Awards Gala, themed "Recognizing Inspiring Women in Action," at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

"Every year as the nominations pour in, I am so inspired by the stories of these remarkable women," Betty Black, chairwoman of the Women of Distinction steering committee, said in a release.

"These awards offer an opportunity to put these women in the spotlight and give them some well-deserved recognition for their contributions."

The 86 women were nominated in 12 categories including arts, culture; education, science and community enhancement.

Tickets cost $140 each when purchased before April 17 but will then increase to $160.
