Ace Walker takes to mound for Goldeyes against RedHawks ace to begin playoffs

FARGO, N.D. — Veteran right-handed pitcher Ace Walker will take the mound for the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball team tonight at 7 when the Goldeyes meet the North division champion Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the first game of the best-of-five American Association semifinal series.

The RedHawks will counter with righty Tyler Herron (12-3, 3.29) who is currently on a league-high nine-game home winning streak.

Fargo started the season 9-17 but are 56-18 since then. With their 65 wins, the RedHawks tied the league record of regular-season wins in a single season which was set by Lincoln in 2006.

"Pitching is going to a big part of who can win this series but I think the biggest difference is going to be who plays the best defence," said Walker (9-5, 3.74), in his fifth Goldeyes season who led the Goldeyes this season in innings pitched with 139.2. He and Matt Rusch tied for the team-high 21 starts. "Everyone is going to bring their best and it's going to be that one or two mistakes that I think is going to wind up swaying the game one way or the other. That's the way it's been with Fargo as long as I've been here."

The Goldeyes have stated that if the series goes the distance, Walker will pitch again on short rest in the fifth game on Sunday.

Tonight's lineup for Winnipeg: Price Kendall SS, Chris Roberson, CF, Yurendell de Caster 2B, Barbaro Canizares DH, Josh Mazzola 1B, Luis Alen C, Mike Coles CF, Kyle Day LF, Amos Ramon 3B.

For Fargo: Zach Penprase SS, Buddy Sosnoskie LF, Nic Jackson CF, Eric Campbell 3B, Jon Gaston RF, Ryan Delgado DH, Marcos Rodriguez 1B, Todd Jennings C, Carlo Cota 2B.
