Two women face a number of charges following a stabbing at a house party in St. James Saturday.

Police said an argument broke out at a house party in the 200 block of King Edward Street about 6:50 p.m. and two women in their 20s confronted a third woman, 21, who was physically assaulted and stabbed. When a 35-year-old man tried to intervene, he was attacked, police said.

The two female assailants left the home and drove off in a vehicle. About 20 minutes later, police located the suspects’ vehicle at Portage Avenue and Century Street.

Two women, ages 23 and 24, were arrested and taken into custody. They face charges of assault, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.

The 21-year-old woman was taken to hospital by ambulance in unstable condition. She remains there today, but there is no update on her condition, Const. Jason Michalyshen said this morning. The 35-year-old man who tried to intervene was not stabbed but sustained a non-life-threatening injury, the police spokesman said.
