Air1 directs officers to suspect during pursuit of speeding car near Assiniboine Park

Air1 directed police on the ground early Friday during pursuit of a speeding car near Assiniboine Park.

Police spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed at about 5 a.m. in the area of Roblin Boulevard near Assiniboine Park. The officers tried a traffic stop but the vehicle sped away.

With Air1 assuming control of the pursuit ground units attempted to deploy two tire deflation devices, however the vehicle continued to evade officers.

The car was  tracked to the area of Lee Boulevard and Shore Street where it was found abandoned. Air1 directed ground units to  two males attempting to evade police on foot on a nearby railway track. Two males were taken into custody.

A 23-year-old man is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police. A 20-year of man, a passenger in the vehicle, is not facing any charges, police said.
