Ambulances to transport some patients to Misericordia

Ambulances will start transporting stable patients to Misericordia Health Centre on Wednesday, as part of a pilot project to decrease wait times and free up more paramedics.

Health officials say they expect between 10 to 14 ambulances will bring patients to Misericordia every day that would have previously gone to a hospital emergency room.

The idea is to decrease strain on hospital ERs by transporting stable patients to Urgent Care. Once they are triaged, paramedics will be able to leave.

Misericordia’s Urgent Care opened in 1998 and provides 24-hour assessment and treatment for non-life threatening medical concerns.
