WINNIPEG - The life and death of Metis leader Louis Riel is being celebrated today.

The Manitoba Metis Federation is holding a graveside ceremony at 11 a.m., 190 Cathedral Avenue, with a lunch of stew and bannock served at Elsie Bear’s Kitchen, in the basement of the MMF home office at 150 Henry Avenue, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entertainment will follow until 3:30 p.m.

"The Manitoba Metis Federation would like to extend an invitation to everyone ... to honour the father of Manitoba, Louis Riel," MMF president David Chartrand said in a prepared statement. "We take this day to reflect on the efforts and progress the Metis Nation in Manitoba has made since the days of Riel."
