Bag Up Manitoba launched
Take Pride Winnipeg and Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba launched Bag Up Manitoba this morning at 10 a.m. at Elwick Community School, 30 Maberley Road.
The program, where elementary school students are encouraged to collect plastic bags for recycling into birdhouses for their schools runs throughout the month of October. Running in Winnipeg-area schools since 2008, the program was expanded in 2010 to include elementary schools in southern Manitoba and further expanded in 2011. Take Pride Winnipeg is now offering the program to every elementary school in Manitoba.
Scheduled to speak at the launch were Take Pride Winnipeg executive director Tom Ethans and Karen Melnychuk of Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba.
The 2012 goal is to collect 600,000 plastic bags and involve 150 elementary schools.
