The City of Winnipeg has ended its cankerworm control program for the year.
The Insect Control Branch focused "on selected streets in heavily foliaged areas that were at high risk of significant leaf damage," a release from the city said.
"The majority of cankerworms have stopped feeding, thereby rendering any further spraying ineffective. Citizens will notice worms hanging from their silken webs for about another week as they prepare for their next part of their life cycle in the ground," the release added.
The city encourages people to put tree bands this fall (Labour Day weekend) to minimize next year's cankerworm outrbreak. For more information, call 311 or visit the insect control website.
