Blue Jackets welcome Carter back

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The reeling Columbus Blue Jackets are looking to a veteran NHL sniper for some hope tonight when they face the Winnipeg Jets at Nationwide Arena ( 6 p.m. CT, CBC, 1290).

Forward Jeff Carter comes back into the lineup against the Jets after having missed 10 games because of a broken foot.

Carter, who has scored 181 goals in his career but none this season, will play on a Blue Jackets line with R.J. Umberger and captain Rick Nash.

"Hopefully that’ll be a big boost for us," Jackets coach Scott Arniel said this morning, his team looking for any spark possible after a 2-12-1 start. "He’s a guy we saw a little bit of early in the year and saw some real good things. Hopefully he’ll have some chemistry with Umberger and Nash and they’re real excited to have him in there. We certainly can use his leadership."

Arniel said ths morning that 24-year-old centre Derick Brassard, who has four points in 15 games and is a team-worst minus-11, will be a healthy scratch tonight against Winnipeg.
