Kyle Walters says it’s a relief to have his scouting team in place as he goes about the work of remaking the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
"This is a big weight off my shoulders," said Walters, who introduced assistant GMs Danny McManus and Ted Goveia to the Winnipeg media today. "When I sat down and put my plan together on how I wanted the football side of our organization to work, I wanted my scouting staff in place and then my coaching staff. This is the first step."
McManus will fill the role of assistant GM and director of U.S. scouting. Goveia will be assistant GM and director of player personnel.
McManus was part of a successful management team in Hamilton but with limited opportunity for advancement behind GM Kent Austin and his top lieutenants Shawn Burke and Drew Allemang.
Goveia was with the Argonauts as director of player personnel working in U.S. and Canadian scouting. He started with the Argos as an assistant coach in 2010 and before that worked in Canadian junior and college football for 15 years in a number of capacities.
The club will also retain Dave Siddal as assistant director of football operations and Drew Morris as national scout. The Bombers now have five people employed on the football operations side.
