VANCOUVER -- Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Chris Garrett has been named the CFL offensive player of the week after romping for 190 yards rushing against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Sunday’s 19-3 Bombers victory in the East Division final, the CFL announced Tuesday morning.

Making his professional playoff debut, Garrett had 190 yards rushing on 29 carries and one reception for another 10 yards, giving him exactly 200 all-purpose yards. He also ran for a historic three-yard touchdown as time expired in what will forever be remembered as the final play at Canad Inns Stadium.

Garrett was cut by the Bombers in training camp but he re-signed with the club in August and became the team’s starting running back when both Fred Reid and Carl Volny sustained season-ending knee injuries during a game in Toronto in late September.

Garrett is the ninth Bomber player to be named a Player of the Week this season.

Garrett and the Bombers take on the BC Lions here at BC Place on Sunday in the 99th Grey Cup. The team is scheduled to arrive in Vancouver at about 6 p.m. PT today.
