Bombers pick up two more Canadians for defence

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added two more Canadians to the roster Friday.

The team announced the signings of defensive tackle Jake Thomas and defensive back Dan West. Both are expected to attend the club's rookie camp, which starts at the end of the month at Canad Inns Stadium before the main camp gets underway June 3.

Thomas, one of the Bombers' fourth-round draft choices in this year’s CFL draft, is a 6-foot-2, 270-pound lineman who played for Acadia last season. The 21-year-old finished second in the AUS conference with nine sacks and was named a second-team All Canadian.

The Douglas, N.B. product also won a silver medal with Canada at the 2011 IFAF World Championship in Austria.

West, 25, comes to Winnipeg via Bishop’s University, where the 6-foot-1, 195-pound player lined up as a linebacker. The free agent recorded 91 tackles and 2.5 sacks over three seasons at Bishop’s.
