Bombers re-sign QB Brink

It’s official: The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have re-signed backup quarterback Alex Brink.
The CFL club made the announcement Monday. The import quarterback had actually agreed to terms with the Bombers days earlier, but the league needed to rubber stamp the contract to make it official.

Brink, 26, was eligible to become a free agent Wednesday.
"I am very happy about returning to the Blue Bombers where I am surrounded by great teammates and coaches," the pivot said in a statement. "The opportunity I have in Winnipeg is one I’m excited to be a part of and will allow me to continue to get better as a quarterback in the CFL."
Brink, entering his third year in the CFL, threw for 1,023 yards
(89-for-140) with five touchdowns and four interceptions in eight appearances last season (two starts). The Washington State-product also rushed for 148 yards and six touchdowns, as he was often used as Winnipeg’s short-yardage quarterback in goal-line situations.
The 6-foot-3, 216-pound quarterback started the 2011 season as the third guy on the depth chart and is the last of the three free agent QBs to come to terms with the Bombers. Starter Buck Pierce and backup Joey Elliott have already re-upped with the club.
The Bombers have seven players who are eligible to become free agents Wednesday.
