Boy, 15, charged after string of fires downtown
A 15-year-old boy was allegedly caught in the act Tuesday night setting fire to a garbage receptacle in the downtown area.
Winnipeg police said members of the Downtown Watch caught the boy at about 10 p.m. and turned him over to police.
A Winnipeg Police Services spokesman said a subsequent investigation concluded that the boy was responsible for a total of five garbage receptacle fires in the downtown area Tuesday night, between 5:30 -10 p.m.
Total damage to the receptacles is estimated at $2,500.
The boy is being detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre. He is facing charges, including five counts of arson and three counts of failing to comply with sentencing conditions.
