Boy injured in hit-and-run near Portage la Prairie
WINNIPEG - A seven-year-old boy was in critical condition in a Winnipeg hospital on Friday after he was hit by a pickup truck that fled the scene near Portage la Prairie.
The boy and family members from the rural municipality of Macdonald were walking on a gravel road north of Portage la Prairie when a truck hit the boy, then drove away without stopping, say RCMP. No other family members were struck.
The boy was transported by ambulance to Health Science Center with undetermined injuries.
A 58-year-old man from from the RM of Portage la Prairie has been arrested and remains in police custody. Charges are pending.
Alcohol and speed were factors in the collision, say police.
