A fire on Saturday evening caused an estimated $400,000 damage to a home in the Brooklands area but the two occupants and their four dogs escaped safely.
Winnipeg police said one of the occupants of the single-family bungalow, located in the 1900 block of McDermot Avenue West, was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
A neighbour said a couple owns and lives in the home and she briefly sheltered the couple's dogs. The man told her the fire started in a shed and he tried to put it out himself but it spread too quickly.
The home appeared to have sustained most of the damage in the front, west side and back of the house where windows were boarded up.
