WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg South MP Rod Bruinooge says he will not run for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba.

"I appreciate all of the messages of support and interest to have me enter this race, however, I will be continuing with my mandate to serve the families of Winnipeg South in Ottawa as their Member of Parliament," he said, in a press release this morning.

Bruinooge was first elected in 2006 after defeating the late Reg Alcock and immediately joined Prime Minister Harper’s team as secretary for Aboriginal Affairs until he left that position in 2008 to focus more on his constituency.

"I look forward to continuing with Prime Minister Harper on the important work we are doing for all Canadian families," said the father of two.

The provincial PCs will be looking for a new leader as Hugh McFadyen announced following the Oct. 4 election he would be stepping down.
