Albert Cohen, the patriarch of Winnipeg’s business community, has passed away at the age of 97.
The founder and co-CEO of Gendis Inc. was the oldest leader of a publicly-traded company in Canada. He died Monday after a brief illness.
Cohen was famous for his year-round fitness regimen. In the winter, he regularly donned his old leather speedskates and skated laps around the Susan Auch Oval if it wasn’t too cold outside. On chillier days, he went indoors to the Winnipeg Winter Club. In the summer, he eschewed power carts during his twice-weekly golf outings and he pulled his own clubs.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irena, their three children, Anthony, James, and Anna-Lisa, and four grandchildren.
