Busy weekend for Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police have been busy responding to several incidents over the past 24 hours.

A 33-year-old woman was taken to hospital this morning after she was stabbed in the West End.

Police said two women, aged 22 and 33, were walking in the area of Ellice Avenue and Maryland Street when they were confronted by two women.

One woman produced a knife and demanded one of the victims empty her pockets. A 33-year-old woman was knocked to the ground, and received a small stab wound to her lower body.

She was treated and released.

Police are looking for one women in her early 30s, 150 pounds, aboriginal in appearance, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and armed with a black-handled hunting knife.

The other suspect is described as in her mid-30s, with a large build, wearing a baggy grey hooded sweatshirt, armed with a silver-coloured folding knife.

In another incident, a 36-year-old man was taken to hospital this morning after he was severely beaten.

Police said a man was beaten in the 1400 block of Notre Dame Ave around 2:30 am. The man was taken to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to guarded condition.

Police are also looking for two men and two women after a woman was assaulted in the 600 block of St. Matthews Ave.

Police said a 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital with a serious upper body injury around 3:30 am.

She was taken to hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable.
