CBC’s Jack Layton movie being shot in Winnipeg

The life of one of Canada’s most beloved political figures is being turned into a TV movie that is being shot in Winnipeg.

The CBC-TV movie Smilin’ Jack: The Jack Layton Story, which stars Rick Roberts (Traders, Three Days to Jonestown) as the late NDP leader and Sook-Yin Lee (Shortbus) as Layton’s wife, Olivia Chow, began filming in Winnipeg last weekend.

Produced by Toronto-based Pier 21 Films and Winnipeg’s Eagle Vision Inc., Smilin’ Jack also stars Wendy Crewson (Air Force One, Saving Hope) and Erin Karpluk (Being Erica).
