Hey there, time traveller!

It will be one night on the street with the goal of helping people get off the street in the CEOs for Downtown Sleepout event on Thursday night.

There will be 40 CEOs (chief executive officer) of major businesses who will sleep outside for one evening to raise awareness about the solutions to assisting those who are homelessness and existing in poverty.

It will take place at Portage and Main, 201 Portage Avenue Courtyard (formerly Canwest Place)

It is also designed to raise funds that will be used for employment initiatives for homeless individuals. The goal is to raise $100,000.

The CEOs for Downtown Sleepout event is an initiative of the Change for the Better campaign by the Winnipeg Downtown Biz to help homeless people get off the street, into permanent paid employment and into a healthier environment.

Leading the CEOs for Downtown Sleepout event are Winnipeg Free Press publisher Bob Cox and editor Margo Goodhand.

"The event will bring together members of the corporate community to lend their voice to important issues, such as homelessness, poverty and unemployment; social issues that affect many people in our downtown and in our city today," Stefano Grande, Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, said in a media release.

"Our goal is not just to support homeless employment programs, but also to bring about an end to homelessness. The discomfort of sleeping on the streets is just a fragment of a larger reality that we hope to highlight with influential leaders of the corporate community. With their help, and yours, we can fight the issue of homelessness together."

If you wish to donate, participating CEOs in the sleepout can be sponsored in three ways:

1. Online at www.changeforthebetter.org

2. Cheque or money order to: "Change for the Better" and mailed to: Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, 426 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0C9)

3. Live pledge during the CEOs for Downtown Sleepout event
