Cabela’s new flagship store in Winnipeg will open to the public on Thursday, May 9.

Cabela’s Canada announced today a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be take place at 10:45 a.m., followed by the official grand opening at 11 a.m. It said a weekend-long celebration is planned, featuring outdoor personalities, family events and giveaways.

The new 70,000-square-foot store is located in the Season’s of Tuxedo retail centre under development at the corner of Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Boulevard. It will replace the company’s existing 44,000-square-foot outlet at 1300 Ellice Ave., which will close in conjunction with the new store opening.

The new retail outlet will include an indoor mountain replica with museum-quality wildlife displays, an archery pro shop, a single-lane testing range, a bargain cave, a gun library, a fudge shop and a 50-person-capacity conference room. It will also offer an in-store pick-up program which will enable customers to order gear ahead of time and have it shipped to the store at no cost.

"This store will allow us to more efficiently serve our thousands of loyal customers across the region and further solidifies our long-term commitment to Winnipeg," Cabela’s Canada CEO Tommy Millner said in a statement.
