CancerCare Manitoba has purchased a state-of-the-art system to prepare chemotherapy drugs developed by a Winnipeg company.
Intelligent Hospital Systems has sold more than 30 of the units to hospitals around the world, but this is the first one to be installed in Manitoba.
The sterile, robotic unit preforms multiple checks to ensure accuracy and safety, and has been shown to increase speed and productivity.
Dr. Dali Daliwal, CEO OF CancerCare Manitoba, said, "The benefits to cancer patients in terms of safety and peace of mind are immeasurable, and the implementation of this technology reinforces CancerCare Manitoba's position as a leader in cancer treatment, including chemotherapy safety."
