Carruthers, Lawes to hold curling clinics

CurlManitoba is bringing back its successful Road Show curling instruction program this winter in a bigger and better format.

Reid Carruthers, the 2011 World Men’s Curling Champion, and Kaitlyn Lawes, the 2011 national Scotties silver medallist, will hold curling clinics in nine Manitoba curling clubs. Carruthers ran the program with Jason Gunnlaugson last winter. As part of each visit, Carruthers and Lawes will hold a clinic for a local school, a clinic for the local junior program and an adult clinic.

"We are excited to have Kaitlyn on board with Reid this season," said Elaine Owen, CurlManitoba’s development manager, in a media release. "Nine curling clubs from across the province will be able to interact and enjoy a day with two of the most engaging and enthusiastic athletes in Manitoba."

With financial support from the Canadian Curling Association, the program has expanded to include three stops in Northern Ontario with Saskatchewan dates expected to be added.

The Manitoba dates and locations include:

Oct. 29 Hamiota

Oct. 30 Minnedosa

Nov. 10 Souris

Dec. 20 Carberry

Dec. 18 Swan Lake

Dec. 19 Manitou

Jan. 15 Dauphin

Jan. 16 The Pas

Jan. 17 Grandview

The Ontario dates and locations are:

Nov. 20 Keewatin

Nov. 21 Sioux Lookout
