Charitable bus driver to appear on CBS morning show

Kris Doubledee is heading to the Big Apple to tell his story.
The city Transit driver will appear live on the CBS This Morning show in New York City on Saturday to talk about his act of kindness that shocked a bus full of passengers and has inspired so many in the city and beyond.
Doubledee was driving near the corner of Portage and Main on Tuesday morning when he suddenly stopped the bus, got off, removed his shoes and gave them to a homeless man.
News of the selfless act has spread like wildfire through local and social media, and now the international press is taking notice.
Doubledee told the Free Press this afternoon he’s proud to be going to Manhattan to share the tale.
"Good people come from good places, " he said, with a chuckle. "I’ll sit down with them and have a little chat about it."
Doubledee said he’s surprised by all the attention he has generated, and hopes it spurs others to do likewise.
"It’s good that people are seeing others doing good things, but it needs to be constant," he said. "That’s how I see it. We’d be in a lot better shape if it was constant."
Flight arrangements are quickly being co-ordinated, and he’s standing by for all the details.
He’s never been to New York before.
"It’s been on my bucket list," he said. "I have the weekend off, so I’m good to go."
Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz will also appear on the show, said spokeswoman Rhea Yates. Katz, chief administrative officer Phil Sheegl, chief financial officer Mike Ruta and council finance chairman Scott Fielding (St. James-Brooklands) are in New York City this week to meet with financial institutions in an effort to maintain or improve the City of Winnipeg’s credit rating.
