Cheer Board, Safeway encourage use of grocery donation bags

  • Print

The Christmas Cheer board teamed up with Canada Safeway to put grocery donation bags in today's Winnipeg Free Press.

"This is an easy way for our customers to donate to the cheer board," said Safeway public affairs coordinator Natalia Porpiglia Dafnis. "We're very confident working with the Cheer Board that Winnipeggers across the city will come together to help feed the need."

People can take the bags to any Safeway store, fill them with purchased groceries and leave them there for the cheer board.

Kai Madsen, the executive director of the cheer board, said that along with initiatives such as the paper bags, the cheer board is working hard to get hampers ready for Winnipeg families.

"Things are going very well," said Madsen. "The volunteers are working long hours and school kids come with their teachers and pack all the hampers. We're chugging right along. We're where we should be."
