TEULON — Jesse Choi of Southwood birdied the final three holes today at Teulon Golf and Country Club to take a one-shot lead into Thursday’s second round of the Manitoba Women’s Amateur golf championship.

Choi’s fast finish gave her a two-over-par 75 and a one-shot lead on Glendale’s Jenna Roadey.

Choi had four birdies and an eagle on her day.

Southwood’s Faye Zechedniak and St. Boniface’s Kathryn McKenzie were in with 77’s, two shots behind the leader.

Defending champion Mindy Lichtman of St. Boniface, who won the Women’s City and District title a week ago, was in a tie for fifth spot after opening with a 78, the same as Elmhurst’s Bri-ann Tokariwski.

Thunder Bay's Susan Wright-Cassan fired a 79 in the senior division, taking a two-shot lead over Tammy Gibson.

Both championships are 54 holes and conclude Friday.
