City acknowledges accessible properties

Mayor Sam Katz and city council accessibility chairman Ross Eadie have recognized five organizations, one individual and a city department as part of Winnipeg’s annual accessibility awards.

The awards demonstrate the diversity of spaces in Winnipeg that are accessible to all citizens, Katz and Eadie said in a statement.

The recipients are as follows:

  • Parks Canada and children’s charity Variety was awarded for the Adventure Playground at The Forks.
  • The University of Winnipeg received an award for the Richardson Environment and Science Complex.
  • Manitoba Centennial Centre was awarded for the makeover of the Steinkopf Gardens.
  • The Province of Manitoba received an award for its new Birthing Centre.
  • The Winnipeg Airports Authority received an honourable mention for the new terminal at James Richardson International Airport.
  •  University of Manitoba Professor Kelly Beaverford and the the city’s public works department received special recognition awards, according to the statement.
