City acknowledges accessible properties
Mayor Sam Katz and city council accessibility chairman Ross Eadie have recognized five organizations, one individual and a city department as part of Winnipeg’s annual accessibility awards.
The awards demonstrate the diversity of spaces in Winnipeg that are accessible to all citizens, Katz and Eadie said in a statement.
The recipients are as follows:
- Parks Canada and children’s charity Variety was awarded for the Adventure Playground at The Forks.
- The University of Winnipeg received an award for the Richardson Environment and Science Complex.
- Manitoba Centennial Centre was awarded for the makeover of the Steinkopf Gardens.
- The Province of Manitoba received an award for its new Birthing Centre.
- The Winnipeg Airports Authority received an honourable mention for the new terminal at James Richardson International Airport.
- University of Manitoba Professor Kelly Beaverford and the the city’s public works department received special recognition awards, according to the statement.
