There will be a flag raising at noon today at city hall to commemorate Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz and Marijka Diakiw, a board member with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the Manitoba Provincial Council, will be on hand to celebrate the event.
Since 1992, the 24th of August has been celebrated in Ukraine as Independence Day. It is held in celebration of the Ukraine gaining independence from the Soviet Union.
