City man charged with murder after arrest in Regina

  • Print

A 42-year-old Winnipeg man faces a charge of second-degree murder after he was arrested Sunday in Regina, a day after the body of a woman was found inside a home in the 1100 block of Alexander Avenue.

Christopher Mackenzie Campbell was immediately identified as a suspect in the case Saturday, and it was believed he was headed for Saskatchewan.

Police have not released the identity of the victim, however, sources have told the Free Press the man’s mother was found dead in the home.

An autopsy is pending and further information will be provided as it becomes available.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Winnipeg Police Service homicide unit.

Campbell was arrested without incident in downtown Regina about 4:35 p.m. on Sunday, Regina police said in a news release.

Regina police had earlier said they were "on the lookout" for Campbell, 42, who apparently abandoned his mother's car near Regina sometime Saturday.

Police said Campbell has been treated for a mental illness in the past.
