WINNIPEG -- Homicide detectives and members of the Winnipeg Police Service identification unit were on the scene of a fatal stabbing this morning in the back lane of the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue.
A 24-year-old man was stabbed just before 2 a.m., a police spokesman confirmed. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but later died from injuries to his upper body.
Late this morning, officers were still probing the area surrounding several homes in the 500 block of Manitoba for clues to the city's 15th homicide of 2010. Blood could be seen on the front sidewalk of one of the homes.
A neighbour reported seeing a fight between two men outside the home this morning.
No arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, around 10 minutes after the first stabbing, officers responded to another serious stabbing in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue. A 30-year-old woman suffered multiple wounds and was rushed to hospital in serious condition.
She was later upgraded to stable condition.
A 25-year-old woman is in custody and faces weapon-related charges.
