City sets up drop-off bins for used hockey equipment
The City of Winnipeg is urging residents to donate their used hockey equipment over the next two weeks in an effort to remove some of the financial barriers to playing the game.
From now until Oct. 28, Winnipeggers can drop off used hockey equipment in bins at city hall and 15 city arenas, Mayor Sam Katz and Elmwood-East Kildonan Coun. Thomas Steen announced this afternoon.
Steen, a former centre with the Winnipeg Jets, said all kids should have the opportunity to play hockey. He also joked current Winnipeg Jets may come by looking for equipment if the NHL lockout drags on.
The drop-off bins are located as follows:
- City Hall council building (510 Main St.)
- Bertrand Arena (294 Bertrand Ave.)
- Billy Mosienko Arena (709 Keewatin St.)
- Century Arena (1377 Clarence Ave.)
- Charles A. Barbour Arena (500 Nathaniel St.)
- Eric Coy Arena ( 535 Oakdale Drive)
- Maginot Arena (910 Maginot St.)
- Old Exhibition Arena (80 Sinclair St.)
- Pioneer Arena (799 Logan Ave.)
- River East Arena (1410 Rothesay St.)
- Roland Michener Arena (1121 Wabasha St.)
- Sam Southern Arena (625 Osborne St. South)
- Sargent Park Arena (1111 Wall St.)
- St. James Civic Centre (2055 Ness Ave.)
- Terry Sawchuk Arena (901 Kimberly Ave.)
- Vimy Arena (255 Hamilton Ave.)
