  • Print

City crews are plowing streets to deal with the dump of snow overnight and more of the white stuff coming today. To help with the snow-clearing efforts on major routes, the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting at midnight, the City of Winnipeg said in a press release. The ban prohibits parking on any Snow Route between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Vehicles parked in violation of the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban face a $100 ticket and may be towed. The ban is in place until snow clearing is completed and the public will be notified.

Here is the city’s snow-clearing priority list:

Priority 1 streets (regional) – Grader plow operations will continue throughout the next several hours to improve road conditions. Salting and sanding applications are being provided if and where required.

Priority 2 street (collector/bus routes) – Grader plowing operations have begun on this network and will continue throughout the day. Snow hauling operations ongoing to improve sight lines in school zones, at bus stops, crosswalks and lane/alley intersections. Maintenance sanding will take place at priority locations.

Priority 3 streets (residential) – Crews are monitoring the residential road network, areas prone to drifting are being monitored and will be addressed with spot plowing and sanding where required.

Priority 1 and 2 sidewalks – Sidewalk blowing of problem areas is being done. A full sidewalk plowing/blowing operation of the P1,P2 and P3 sidewalk network will begin tomorrow (Saturday).

Priority 3 sidewalks (residential) – Sidewalk clearing at completion from previous snow events, with crews addressing problem areas due to the current snowfall with sidewalk blowers.

Backlanes – Lane clearing will be Saturday at 7 a.m.

The city is asking people to use caution in and around snow-clearing operations. It also reminds folks that the annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect daily on streets designated as snow routes from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. until March 1.
