Byung Cho, a Talbot Avenue convenience store owner, had a winning Western 649 lottery ticket.

A Winnipeg convenience store owner is $1 million richer after a lottery ticket he purchased at his store hit the jackpot.

Byung Cho won $1 million in the Western 649 lottery, according to the Western Canada Lottery Corp.

Cho purchased a $28 ticket at his shop, Mak Milk, at 661 Talbot Ave. The next day, Cho checked his lotto numbers and discovered he had the winning numbers.

WCLC said in a statement that Byung carried on working the rest of the day, despite the fact his ticket won $1,006,750 in total.

Cho could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.

"I just smiled," Cho said in a WCLC statement. "No one else was there!"

WCLC said all major lottery claims are reviewed to make sure the person claiming the cash prize is the rightful holder of the ticket.

Since Cho owns the store where he purchased the ticket, WCLC said the process included additional questions and review. Once the review was complete, he received his cheque.

WCLC said in a press release that Cho is taking a conservative approach to his new fortune.

"I want to put it in the bank and take time to think about it," he said in a press release.
