City wants garbage carts left out til 10 p.m.

City of Winnipeg officials want residents to leave their garbage and recycling carts out past 10 p.m. due to delays in collection.

City officials sent out a press release this afternoon saying collection crews have worked late every night this week to stay on top of the new garbage and recycling schedule. This week, Winnipeg began collection of garbage and recycling carts from 190,000 households city-wide. A set day of the week now replaces the old cycle system.

Winnipeg officials said a combination of new drivers, new routes, and unusually gusty winds on Tuesday has kept collection crews working later than usual. Officials said residents should leave their carts out on the street past 10 p.m. If they haven't been emptied by 10 p.m., officials said they will be collected the next day.
