Close — but no weather record

Missed it by that much.

Saturday was a smokin’ hot day with the temperature hitting 29.6 C but, crazy as it might seem, it didn’t break any records.

It’s doubtful, however, that anybody remembers the last time the mercury exceeded such altitude on the second-last day of September.

That was back in 1905, when the temperature hit 30 C.

Environment Canada says it’s going to be nearly as nice today, with an expected high of 25 under sunny skies and light winds.

That could be the last time we see temperatures north of 20 degrees for a while, however. Monday’s forecast calls for a high of 18 C and sunny while Tuesday is expected to be cloudy with a high of 19 C.

Things will likely cool off from there, down to 12 C on Wednesday and just 9 C on Thursday. Expect temperatures in the high single digits for the Thanksgiving long weekend.

The average high for this time of year is 15 C.
