Famed U.S. basketball coach Ken Carter will be at Dakota Collegiate April 24 to kick off a fundraising campaign for a new athletic field.
You might have heard of Carter because Samuel L. Jackson played him in the 2005 movie Coach Carter.
Dakota principal Jill Mathez said that Dakota recently added both football and cricket to a strong athletic program.
Plans for the field will include artificial turf, stands, scoreboard, lights and other amenities specific to football, soccer, track, rugby and field hockey. Having a properly equipped field will also allow school teams to play home games at home rather than travelling to other venues as they do now, the St. Vital high school said.
