Collings shares lead at men's amateur at Glendale
WINNIPEG — Garth Collings of Breezy Bend has a chance to win a fourth provincial amateur title on Thursday.
Collings, 54, shares the lead with Southwood’s Charlie Boyechko through 54 holes of this year’s Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur after an even-par round of 72 today at Glendale Golf and Country Club.
Collings is through three days at two-under-par 214.
Boyechko raced to the top of the leaderboard and into Thursday’s final group with a superb five-under-par 67 today. He’s also at 214.
They’ll be joined Thursday by Teulon’s Aaron Cockerill, the 2010 Manitoba Junior champ, who fired a 69 today to get back to even par for the championship, 216 and two off the pace.
Cockerill is tied with Pine Ridge’s Josh Wytinck (71 today) and the leader through the first two days of the championship, 18-year-old Thomas Strandemo of Oxbow Country Club in Fargo (75).
Southwood’s Bryce Barr is sixth at two over after a 75, while the other two former champions in the field have a real uphill climb left on the final day.
Peter More of Breezy Bend, the 2010 champ, is four-over after today’s 73, six off the lead, and eight back is defending champ Jesse Skelton of Breezy Bend, who shot 76 today to fall to six-over for the event.
